In the past 14 years as a personal trainer I have been asked probably every question there is on how to lose weight or get healthy. With each of those question came a list of excuses as to why it didn't work for that individual. I would try and explain the ins and outs of cardiovascular exercise and strength training and why you need to incorporate both into your workout routine. I also would discuss the importance of proper nutrition. How balancing your protein/carb/fat intake will increase your metabolism and such. I would explain the need for rest and recovery and how without it your body cannot improve. Everyone I talked to became "smarter" with fitness and nutrition but the improvements were not there. No matter how smart you are if you do not do it consistently you will not get the results you are after.
See the number 1 way to become fit and healthy is: consistency. Health and fitness is not an overnight process but rather a lifelong journey. It cannot be something you do when you feel well or when the time is right or trying the latest 10 day weight loss diet. It must become your lifestyle and it must be a priority in your life. If you can do that then the results will happen.
Commit to being consistent!
